Senior IP Counsel, SABIC
Michael Willis is a Senior IP counsel at SABIC in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. As part of the SABIC IP legal team, he provides legal support across SABIC's chemicals and metals business functions.
Prior to joining SABIC, Michael worked as an attorney at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Palo Alto, California, USA, and at King & Spalding, in New York, NY, USA. He also worked as a patent agent at the patent boutique Morgan & Finnegan, in New York, while attending law school. Michael's work focuses on patent prosecution, portfolio development, and intellectual property transactions. Michael began his IP career as a patent examiner at the US Patent and Trademark Office.
Michael's technical background is in organic chemistry. He received his Ph.D. from Columbia University in New York City, where he performed synthetic studies on marine natural products, and his Bachelor's degree from Harvard University. While working as a chemist at a biotech startup, he performed research towards new treatments for asthma and inflammation.
