Biography

​Richard Litman is the Practice Group Leader of the IP & Emerging Technologies Practice Group at Becker & Poliakoff, a law firm with offices in New York, Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, Florida and Europe. Richard is also Chairman of fast growing Freedom Bank, a Washington, DC area commercial bank approaching a half billion in assets, and serves as General Counsel of the International IP Law Institute and as an Advisor to the International IP Law Association. Seven years ago he started the Global Academic Innovation Network.  After finishing college when he was 15, he graduated from law school with honors and obtained advanced degrees in Forensic Sciences and Patent and Trade Regulation Law. He has been a practicing IP lawyer for 36 years. He  works with governments, foundations, funding agencies, universities, research centers and the private sector. He assists with IP policies and procedures, patentability assessments, patent applications, and with multinational IP collaborations, licenses and the formation, growth and financing of  IP-centric companies, R&D consortia and tech parks. Over the past decade he has been actively involved in IP related innovation based economic development initiatives in the US, Indonesia, the Philippines, Latin America and the GCC.
